The short version

The community library holds Reading and Listening tests that IELSPEAK learners made and chose to share. Anyone can sit them for free. Publish only a test you wrote yourself, or one you have the rights holder’s permission to share. Do not publish tests copied from IELTS books, paid courses or other websites.

Who is responsible. IELSPEAK hosts community tests; it does not write, check or approve them before they are published. The learner who publishes a test is responsible for it, including for having the right to share it. IELSPEAK does not answer for restricted or infringing material a learner shares, and makes no promise that a community test is accurate, original or like the real exam. What we do promise is below: to act quickly when we are told a test breaks these rules.

What may be published

  • A test you wrote yourself, even if it is modelled on the IELTS format.
  • A test you have written permission from the rights holder to publish.
  • Material genuinely in the public domain.

What may not

  • Tests, passages or recordings copied from published IELTS books (including the official Cambridge series), commercial courses, apps or websites, even with small changes.
  • Real exam questions remembered or recorded from a live test.
  • Anything offensive, hateful, sexual, or harmful to anyone.
  • Spam, advertising, or files that are not really a test.

What happens when you publish

  1. You say where the test came from and tick a declaration. We store your answer and the time you gave it.
  2. Automatic checks run: the test has a complete answer key, it is long enough, the recordings are attached, and it is not a near copy of a test already in the library.
  3. If the checks pass, the test is public straight away, with your username on it. You can make it private again or delete it at any time.

Reporting a test

Every community test has a Report link. When 3 different learners report the same test, it is hidden until a moderator looks at it. The moderator then restores it or removes it.

Copyright notices

If a test copies your work, use Report and choose “It copies my work”, or, if you have no account, write to [CONTACT EMAIL]. Include:

  1. your name, and who you act for if it is not yourself;
  2. how to reach you;
  3. the work that was copied (a book and page, or a link);
  4. the test that copies it (its title and author, or its link);
  5. a statement that you believe in good faith the use is not authorised, and that what you have written is accurate.

A complete notice sent through Report hides the test at once. Notices by email are acted on as soon as we read them.

If your test is taken down

You will see why on My tests, and you can appeal once. For a copyright notice, the appeal is your counter-notice: say why you believe the test is yours to share. We may pass your appeal and contact details to the person who complained.

Strikes

Each test removed after review is a strike. With 3 strikes in 365 days, an account can no longer publish. Its tests already removed stay removed; everything else about the account keeps working.

Your rights in what you publish

You keep the copyright in tests you publish. By publishing, you let IELSPEAK store, show and serve the test to learners, and use its anonymous results to rank it and measure its difficulty, for as long as it is published and until results that already exist are deleted. IELSPEAK’s own code is open source; your tests are not covered by that licence.
